Interface Carpet

In 1994, Interface CEO Ray Anderson experiences his "Plunderer Epiphany" after reading Paul Hawken's groundbreaking book, The Ecology of Commerce -  and delivers his first environmental speech which marked the beginning of Interface's journey sustainability and ZERO Waste.

The company begins designing products utilizing a "Less is More" philosophy and reduces average consumption of fiber by 10% a square yard in just 12 months.

They've saved hundreds of millions of dollars by "going sustainable" on their way to becoming a "Zero Waste" company by 2020.

In 2006, after just 12 years, they reinvigorate their sustainability journey with the mantra “Mission Zero,” a more simplistic and humanistic way to voice their commitment to “Doing well by doing good.” Their global drive to leave a zero environmental footprint by 2020 isn’t new – but the mission zero symbol is. It serves as a reminder for the entire company that with every creative, manufacturing and product decision, they can offer beauty, performance, and integrity – leaving minimal-to-no environmental impact - and be profitable at the same time.

They've inspired hundreds of other businesses to join the sustainability movement because they proved that it was good for the Planet and the BOTTOM LINE.
