"The most important thing is to actually think about what you do.  To become aware and actually think about the effect of what you do on the environment and on society. That's  key, and it underlies everything else."  ~ Jane Goodall

I like to think that I'm well-informed about lots of environmental, sustainable and green issues and sometimes I learn about "stuff" that has been happening  years and I realize I'm not always that well-informed.

The "stuff" I recently learned about is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch -  a 7 million square mile patch of garbage, mostly plastic, foating in the Pacific ocean between Hawaii and the United States.  It is twice the frigging size of Texas. It is wreaking havoc on the marine life, as you can see in the videos below.  And according to environmental experts, it may be impossible to clean it up.

This huge garbage dump is caused by plastic from Japan, China and the United States as well as from ships on the ocean.  This provides painfully visible proof that we are all "interconnected" through our garbage...

What makes us humans think it's cheaper to throw something "away" (oops, there is no "away") than it is to not create the problem in the first place?

What the hell are we doing to the Planet?

That's why I'm writing Goodonmics 101 which is currently
scheduled to be published in March 2011.
